As election season nears, Indianola takes a closer look at its campaign sign laws.

The city council recently being made aware that incumbent candidates may be given an advantage over new candidates by being allowed to post campaign signs earlier than those planning to enter the race.

The council also making changes to an ordinance that once prohibited the placement of election signs on private property. Now signs will be allowed on private property if the resident approves.

Mayor Steve Rosenthal says he and the council are now making the necessary changes.
