A ribbon cutting was held at the former Leland Elementary School this morning to recognize it's new name, the Edna M. Scott Elementary School.

The late Edna M. Scott was an educator turned principal in the Leland School District who retired after 37 years of service in 1990.

Friends, family and community leaders joined to remember and honor her legacy at the school she loved.

A proclamation was given to her family by State Representative Reverend Otis Anthony and Mayor Kenny Thomas presented her husband, James Scott, with a key to the city.

Scott passed away February 5th, after a house fire.
