Patansy Miller Hampton is back coaching the Leland High School girls' basketball team after she was reinstated by schools superintendent Jesse King.

Last week, King removed Miller Hampton from her coaching job and her position as athletic director at the school after a Facebook chat surfaced showing someone identifying herself as Miller Hampton made racial slurs and derogatory comments about Greenville High School.

King went further and appointed an assistant coach to replace Miller Hampton for the rest of the season.

Miller Hampton's representatives met with the Delta News last week and pointed out anyone could have posed as Miller Hampton and posted the comments to Facebook. They also said she denied participating in the chat and had retained a lawyer.

The Leland superintendent claims Miller Hampton was never removed from her position and that her assistant had only been given the job while an investigation was being conducted. King says that investigation has been completed and Miller Hampton is back on the job. King also says the investigation failed to determine who made the comments.

Monday afternoon, Miller Hampton told the Delta News she didn't want to talk about the incident but just wanted to do her job coaching basketball.

Last week, King claimed he had reached out to the Mississippi High School Athletic Association when the matter first surfaced and they recommended she be removed from her jobs. Miller Hampton's friends say her removal was fueled by men involved with high school athletics who did not want a woman to hold a job as athletic director.
